FRAXEL RESTORE WITH DUAL WAVELENGTH

What are the benefits of Fraxel treatment?

  • Smoother, fresher looking skin
  • Improved tone and texture
  • Reduced wrinkles including around the eyes
  • Removal of brown spots and pigmentation
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars

What is Fraxel?

Fraxel is an exciting new technology which was patented at Harvard University in 2003. Fraxel lasers use microscopically small beams of laser energy to precisely treat 15-50% of the skin at a time. The islands of treated skin stimulate the body's own natural healing to replace the old, damaged skin cells and collagen with normal, fresh, healthy looking skin.

The original Fraxel Restore laser (using the erbium glass wavelength / 1550nm wavelength) is non-ablative i.e. it does not break the surface of the skin and therefore has a short recovery time but needs more treatment sessions (3-6). It removes both pigment and old collagen so it also helps rejuvenate the skin texture, reduce wrinkles, tighten pores and soften scars as well as removing unwanted pigment. After treatment the skin may be red and slightly swollen and there is usually slight flaking of the skin a couple of days later. As the skin is not broken clients are usually able to return to work that day and are able to wash as usual. The treatment is performed using local anaesthetic cream. Because the Fraxel treatment is so precise it is safe and effective on delicate parts of the body such as the neck, chest, hands and arms as well as the face. It can also be used on skin of all colour (from very fair to very dark).

Fraxel Restore with Dual Treatment Modes is a revolutionary new addition to the Fraxel technology launched in the US in 2009 and in the UK in 2010. In addition to the 1550nm wavelength, it has an additional wavelength of laser energy called the Thulium wavelength (1927nm) previously used in other branches of medicine, but only now developed for use in dermatology. It is particularly good at removing pigment. One session with the Thulium wavelength is equivalent to four of the 1550nm wavelength fro removing pigment. It is performed with local anaesthetic cream and afterwards the skin is red and slightly swollen and flaky for at least a week. Patients can wash as normal immediately after the treatment and apply make-up, although for face treatments patients may wish to take a couple of days off work while the redness settles, A particularly popular treatment is to have the Thulium wavelength treatment first to remove the unwanted pigment, then follow it up a 2-4 weeks later with the 1550nm wavelength to help reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.

How many treatments will I need and how will they be spaced?
Everyone's skin is different, but clinical studies suggest that for most people, maximum results are realized in just 3 to 5 sessions. They are usually spaced 2 to 6 weeks apart.

Does Fraxel treatment hurt?
Topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure to minimize discomfort. After the treatment, most patients report a feeling similar to having a too much sun. It usually disappears after 1 to 3 hours. Safe Non-Invasive Treatment.

What side-effects can I expect after treatment and how long will they last?
You will have some degree of redness and swelling. The intensity and duration depends on how aggressive the treatment was and your particular healing characteristics. Other temporary side-effects may include minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking, and a bronzed skin appearance. You will be given specific instructions about what to expect for your particular treatment and how to minimize the side-effects.

What precautions should I take after treatment?
Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and avoid direct sun exposure while you're healing for at least 3 months after your last treatment. Further protect yourself by wearing wide-brimmed hats if you expect to be out in sun.

How long do the effects of Fraxel treatment last?
It depends on your particular condition and how you care for your skin. Once your skin is restored, continue to protect it as described above. For conditions, such as melasma, it is very important to avoid direct sun exposure to maintain the benefit.
