LED LIGHT (Light Emitting Diodes)
Research has suggested that certain wavelengths of light
can have particular effects on the skin. This is now being
developed with the use of light emitting diodes (LED’s),
which are not lasers but are very powerful lights of
a single colour. Hundreds of small diode light bulbs
are arranged in a light head which can then be positioned
on the area to be treated.
Current research is suggesting that certain wavelengths of light can have particular effects on the skin. For example, blue light seems to be helpful in reducing the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria that play a role in acne. It appears that red light may have an anti-inflammatory effect and it has been suggested that it may produce a subtle increase in collagen production. Individuals who have red and blue light treatment have reported an improvement in their facial acne. Those who have red and blue light treatment, or red light alone, often report an improvement of the texture of their skin and possible softening of fine lines and wrinkles. It has also been suggested that red LED light may improve the healing time after other skin procedures.
The treatment involves lying under a light for approximately 20 minutes. It is pain free. Goggles are worn over the eyes during the treatment as the light is quite bright. The skin may look a little flushed immediately after the treatment but this settles in a few minutes and normal daily activities can be resumed immediately.
