Treatments to Get Your Skin Ready for the Christmas Season

beautiful woman with earings
This is the time of year when the skin can benefit from some additional help. The summer sun may have caused some unwanted pigmentation and sun damage and the arrival of colder weather dries the skin out. With the Christmas Party season approaching, now is an ideal time to do some special treatments for your skin to repair the summer damage and have it looking its best for the festive season.

Options include:

CO2 Laser Resurfacing with UltraPulse® Alpha by Lumenis. This removes the surface of the skin and will require a week of recovery when you would be unable to go out, but the end result is noticeable improvement in fine lines wrinkles and pores, removal of brown spots, reduction of scars and skin tightening. Most patients look at least 5-10 years younger after this treatment. For those who cannot take a week off to recover it can be done in a fractionated way for quicker healing.

The price of a fully ablative treatment on the face is £4350 and a fractionated treatment on the face is £3550, with an additional £595 if the skin around the eyes is treated.

Fraxel® Re:Store using a nonablative fractionated laser which does not break the skin. It improves wrinkles, pigmentation and scars. This causes the skin to look pink and slightly flaky for 5-10 days. Approximately four sessions of this has similar results for wrinkles and scars to one UltraPulse® Alpha, by Lumenis, but the UltraPulse® achieves more tightening.

£895 for the face if done by Dr Farrell, £595 if done by the nurses.

PicoWay® Laser Global Treatment. This also improves fine lines and wrinkles. It usually has no recovery time and does not require local anaesthetic. Approximately three sessions of this of this has similar results for wrinkles and scars as one Fraxel® Re:Store.

£595 for the face with Dr Farrell or £395 with the nurses and 6th one free.

Laser Genesis. This is a gentle treatment which has no recovery time. It reduces redness and has a subtle improvement in fine lines and pores. It can be used to give the skin a “glow” and radiance before an event.

£265 for the face and 6th one free.

Hydrafacial. This uses a unique technology to exfoliate and infuse water into the skin. It can also be used to introduce beneficial products into the skin such as Vitamin C or retinol. There is no recovery time and the skin looks smooth and hydrated afterwards.

£185 for the face which includes lymphatic drainage and Booster step. Course of 6, one free. Course of 12, three free.

Sofwave™. This latest technology uses focused beams of ultrasound to tighten the skin. There is also a slight improvement in wrinkles. There is no recovery time.

£1495 for the face and £2245 for face and neck.

Fotona. This very versatile laser is most usually used as four combined steps (the 4D) to tighten the skin and improve wrinkles on the face. It can also be used for Smooth Eye treatment to tighten the skin around the eyes, Smooth Lip to plump and hydrate the lips and the T runner for deeper tightening on the face, neck, arms, legs or body. These have little recovery time.

Thread Veins and Redness can be removed with the Excel V laser.

Brown marks can be removed with the PicoWay® Laser, or the Fraxel® Re:Store with 1927nm wavelength.

Lumecca Intense Pulse Light can help redness and brown marks.

BOTOX® to relax excessive movement causing wrinkles. From £245 for one area done by Dr Farrell.

Fillers to reshape the face. From £495 per syringe done by Dr Farrell.

Profhilo® to hydrate and improve elasticity. From £395 is done by nurses.

These all benefit the skin and the best results come from combining them. We now know that many of the laser or intense pulse light treatments, when done repeatedly and regularly, stimulate the skin cells to express the genes of younger skin and that the fractionated laser treatment (particularly the CO2) reduces the future development of skin cancer.
