We are very grateful to be working in such an exciting branch of medicine and with treatments that are improving all the time. We feel blessed to be able to help so many of our patients with their skin concerns.
For many years we have tried as an organisation to give back to the world in several ways.
All our consultant dermatologists and plastic surgeons have an interest in teaching and training the next generation. They have all worked in teaching hospitals attached to medical schools. Some of the many of the teaching activities our consultants undertake include those listed below:
Dr Anne Farrell has been involved in the internationally recognised dermatology teaching program at Cardiff University. Locally, she teaches the junior doctors at the two local NHS hospitals free of charge on the most common dermatology conditions to help them provide the best care for the dermatology problems they encounter in their NHS patients.
Dr Farrell also acts as a mentor for the British Cosmetic Dermatology Group for young consultant and trainee dermatologists interested in learning more about cosmetic dermatology.
Dr Sarah Walsh is heavily involved in teaching at King College Hospital and is currently involved in editing the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. She has collaborated with art educationalists to develop a European visual literacy training programme which she runs annually for UK and European dermatologists. This is a novel training method for doctors using fine art to hone observational and descriptive skills, originally pioneered at Yale Medical School.
Dr Marie-Louise Daly has been clinical lead for dermatology at Lewisham and Greenwich Trust where she was head of teaching for undergraduate medical students.
Dr Sophia Paget is currently involved in training dermatology trainees and medical students from St George’s medical school. She is the research lead for her dermatology department and oversees and delivers NIHR registered dermatology clinical trials and contributes to the South West London clinical research network.
Dr Jonathan Batchelor has been Clinical Trials Section Editor of the British Journal of Dermatology. He
Miss Jennifer O’Neill is currently Surgical Tutor for plastic surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital and is part of the simulation teaching faculty.
Mr Asit Khandwala has been a trainer for the next generation of plastic surgeons at Queen Victoria Hospital since 2004.
Mr Nick Parkhouse was awarded a Hunterian Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1990 for his research into wound healing.
Our consultant dermatologists are also happy to give lectures in local GP surgeries or host GP educational meetings in our clinic.
For many years Dermatology Consulting has donated regularly to the British Skin Foundation, the foremost charity in the UK supporting research by British Dermatologists. The British Skin Foundation funds high quality research in British Universities to develop new treatments for a wide range of medical dermatology and skin cancers which is internationally recognised.
We try to reduce our carbon footprint and recycle as much as possible. We donate regularly to the Woodland Trust and their program of replanting trees.
For a number of years Dermatology Consulting has supported the wonderful work done by the Hospice in the Weald.
We also support The Passage, a charity for the homeless in London which provides shelter and practical support for those trying to move on from life on the streets.
We also support the Emerald Hill Orphanage in Zimbabwe, many of whose children are orphaned as a result of HIV. Our donations support the orphanage, school and have contributed to the drilling of a well to supply fresh water to nearby villages.
